Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin - Holy Bible - 2013

First edition, second printing. Embossed leather flexi-bound with 768 gilded pages. Includes 8 page booklet attached to inside back cover. Has had a transparent dust cover on since originally purchased. Part of the publishers rare book collection. Winner of the 2014 Infinity Award, International Center of Photography, NYC ABOUT THE BOOK: For their version of the Holy Bible, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin mined the Archive of Modern Conflict with philosopher Adi Ophir’s central tenet in mind: that God reveals himself predominantly through catastrophe. The format of Broomberg and Chanarin’s illustrated Holy Bible mimics both the precise structure and the physical form of the King James version. By allowing elements of the original text to guide their image selection, the artists explore themes of authorship, and the unspoken criteria used to determine acceptable evidence of conflict. ABOUT THE ARTIST: The internationally acclaimed artist duo Broomberg & Chanarin have achieved a reputation for their photographic, moving image and performance works that grapple with themes around warfare, surveillance, historical truth and the challenging of authority. They are represented in the collections of Tate, MoMA, the V&A and Centre Pompidou and in 2013 they won the prestigious Deutsche Bourse Prize. Their 23-year artistic partnership was officially terminated on 20 February 2021. ABOUT THE PUBLISHER: MACK is an independent publisher of award-winning books on visual art and architecture.
