Amazing wooden chôba’dansu 帳場箪笥 (merchant's document cabinet) with sturdy hand-forged iron hardware. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed.
Made of indigenous hinoki (cypress) wood varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, that we like to call ‘golden oak’. The top surface with a burned seal.
Configured with eight broad drawers fitted with ‘hirute’-shaped bail handles set on oblong escutcheons, above a rectangular lock plate with a circular applique and a raised knob shaped like a chrysanthemum flower 菊 (kiku).The drawers run very smoothly. The cabinet has a lot of volume for easy storage.
The sides featuring a pair of lender ‘warabite’-shaped totte (grip handles) for easy transport.
The smooth running drawers are very deep and have a lot of volume, for easy storage.
Period: Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912).

Height 91.3 cm, Width 87.8 cm, Depth 36.5 cm.
The chôba’dansu is in a very good restored condition. One handle standing a little bit upward. Please see the photos for a condition reference. No keys included.
