A striking foldable wooden monk’s chair 曲録 (kyokuroku, Lit. curved wood) lacquered in red and fitted with golden shaped hardware decorated with all sorts of elegant flora.
The ornate and broad horseshoe-shaped back with a gold lacquer panel with a geometric relief design. The backside adorned with a gilded metal applique shaped like a crest 紋 (mon) depicting a crane 鶴 (tsuru).
The seat is made of black leather, and the footrest is also collapsible.
Found in temples, such chairs were used solely by priests, mostly favoured by the Zen 禅 sect, but it is also used by other Buddhist sects. Suitable for sitting in a crossed-legged fashion
In a good condition with some traces of age and use. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
