The Scandinavian "monstrous" brooch (monstrous brooches, in which one element is significantly larger than the others) - typical in the Baltic zone of Scandinavia. Brooch made of silver gilt, decorated with filigree and granulation. Fibulas of this type were worn by women from the upper classes of the Goths, they date back to the C2 phase of the Roman Period (approx. 260 AD - 310 AD).
Very well preserved, with no repairs or any other modern modifications.
Absolutely amazing piece of great rarity!
The fibula comes from an old collection and was supposedly found in the Podolia Governorate of the Russian Empire in the late 19th or early 20th century. IMPORTANT: the card from the old catalog is not included in the auction! However, a certificate of authenticity will be issued.
