Illuminated Medieval Biblia Sacra (Holy Bible), published in Paris 1230-1280 circa.
680 leaves in vellum, text in Latin. Illuminated initials throughout in blue and red, 140 leaves with nice historiated miniatures (some leaves with 2-3 small miniatures). Text in 45 lines and double columns. 15th-century antique hardcover in decorated calfskin with clasps. In the 13th century, clerics in Paris required a Bible volume compact enough to take along on their travels. Scribes then made smaller and smaller manuscripts comprising the complete set of Scriptures in a codex no larger than what a hand could hold.
This thirteenth-century manuscript is a fine example of the “Paris Vulgate” tradition, established in the late 12th century when theologians at the University of Paris compiled a highly authoritative recension of St. Jerome’s Latin Bible.
Bible in Vellum, 680 leaves with wide margins, in 4to size 22,5 cm x 17,5 cm, language latin, in very good condition, COMPLETE.
Shipping: via UPS, DHL, protected, INSURED and fully tracked package. An export license request is pending, so the manuscript will be shipped only after obtaining it.
