From the 1850s, Schatz was a leading manufacturer of classic ship’s instruments, before finally closing in 1985.
For sale, a rare set of matching Schatz ship's instruments with attractive brass ring highlights on the outer parts of the white dials. They were made in West Germany in the 1970s or 1980s. Both are fully functional and show superb workmanship.
The Sea-Quartz clock has an unusual combination with a high-quality battery-run quartz movement together with a mechanical movement (with key) that controls the chimes. The chimes use a proper brass bell, striking a 4-hour-watch-sequence with cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. The clock is fully adjustable from the front. Chimes can be switched off for transport (see screw on back, photo #27). The battery can be changed from the back (see photo #55).
The dial is in perfect condition. There is an attractive red second hand dial on the lower right of the face.
The matching Schatz barometer with twin diaphragm doppeldose is calibrated in both millibars and inches. It is adjustable from the back. The face is in fine condition.
Both lacquered brass-housings are in near-mint, condition with minimal patina (see photos). There are no cracks or dents. The doors are secured by brass scuttle-clamps. The facet-cut glass ports are clean and intact.
A great opportunity to own these rare instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship. I pack with care (see reviews) and send securely with insurance.

But the clock was sold in an the auction “Clocks & Accessories for Restoration”- you cannot expect it to work without repair - The listing had a summary clearly stating that the clock does not work (“…..needs repair - runs slowly”) - The listing clearly states that the clock “runs slowly, so will need servicing” - The description concludes that this was a clock “which after service should have a long life” - In summary, I clearly write that the clock was for repair and restoration. It is unfair to criticize me if you cannot get the clock to work - If you had contacted me, we could have discussed ways to set up the clock (as outlined in the listing).
