Nr. 90627251
Batch 25 (two bottles)
one has some scratches on the packaging (as shown in the images).
A symbolic special batch; the 25th Oak Aged batch during the 25th anniversary of La Trappe Quadrupel.
The head of this clear amber brown beer remains fragile, just like that of batch 24, which makes it rest on the beer like a thin silk blanket. The scent of vanilla, followed by that of almond, honey, caramel, oak and malt are emphasized by this. A fresh scent clearly dominates, reminiscent of white wine (floral and slightly sour).
The first taste clearly gives the impression of La Trappe Quadrupel, after which the fresh and fruity wine aromas clearly follow, and turn into an alcoholic warming aftertaste. This aftertaste is further colored by the aromas of the Kirsch, with a hint of cherries. The oak is also clearly but subduedly present in the aftertaste, which gives the beer a slightly smoky character.
Although the carbonation is quite low, this fits well with its desirable serving temperature of 16°-18°. This way, the aromas of this particularly soft and delicate beer come into their own.
Barrels used Kirsch-schnapps 59%
New Oak Medium Toast 30%
Dry white wine (Pouily Fumé & Sancerre) 11%
This batch was blended in August 2016.
Batch 30 (one bottle)
Batch 30 presents itself with a fragile beige head and a warm golden-amber beer colour. The most important ingredient of this batch is the cachaça. That is the Brazilian name for rum and, like the other types of rum, is also made from sugar cane. The difference is that this rum is always made from 100% freshly squeezed sugar cane juice and therefore also has that pronounced sugar cane flavour.
A first aroma impression is alcoholic with fruity rum associations of tropical fruit and lots of herbs (including ginger and liquorice). Just like the caramel and malt aromas, the oak is also clearly present, but not in the foreground.
The taste can be called full to bombastic with lots of caramel, herbs and ripe fruit. The flavours of: ginger, dates, sweetness, oak, smoke and of course the remarkable bitterness of La Trappe Quadrupel can certainly be recognised. The maturation has the right fullness; the taste is pleasantly sweet, but has not lost its robustness. Together with the vanilla, all these flavors make it a beer that brings new taste associations with every sip.
Cachaça 80%
New Oak Medium Toast 20%
This batch was blended in January 2018.
