Macallan 1968 - Mission Cask Strength Series by Murray McDavid Whisky Bottlers
Macallan 1968 - 35 Years by Murray McDavid for the prestigious Mission Cask Strength Series, a very old and quite fabulous 1968 Macallan, bottled in 2002.
This series focuses on limited editions of exceptional and rare whiskies, often from closed or notable distilleries. The whiskies are bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration or added color, ensuring an authentic flavor profile. Natural whisky fans will be pleased to know that this whisky has not undergone any 'enhancement' in wine casks.
Drawn from American oak casks at a cask strength 40.2% ABV, this rare vintage Macallan is one of just 852 bottles and comes complete with fine original wooden presentation case.
The Macallan is a prestigious Scottish whisky distillery located in Speyside and is regarded as one of the world's most respected single malt whisky brands. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, it is now owned by the Edrington Group. While The Macallan was initially a key ingredient in blended whiskies, it wasn't until the 1980s, amid declining demand for blends, that it shifted focus to single malts. A marketing team led by Allan Shiach, Frank Newlands, Hugh Mitcalfe, and Willie Phillips positioned The Macallan as a premium whisky, earning it the nickname "Cognac whisky." The brand gained wider appeal through imaginative and provocative ad campaigns. A major milestone was the launch of the "Fine & Rare" series and a collaboration with Lalique, which created special decanters for rare, aged editions like the 50- and 60-year-old whiskies. This helped The Macallan carve out a place in the luxury whisky market. Today, it is one of the most sought-after whiskies in the world, cherished by connoisseurs, collectors, and investors alike.
-Tasting notes-
Nose: Fruity notes of dried apricots, vanilla, and light oak influence.
Taste: Smooth and rich, with honey, ripe fruit, and subtle spices, balanced by vanilla sweetness from the bourbon casks.
