A striking lacquered wooden Takayama kô’dansu 衣装箪笥 (small cabinet of drawers) in a single section, fully restored, cleaned, and waxed.
The exterior and drawer fronts are crafted from indigenous ‘kuri’ wood (Japanese chestnut), showcasing a beautiful reddish-orange Shunkei lacquer finish that highlights the refined wood grain. This lacquer starts as yellow-orange and matures into a rich red-orange over time, as seen in this cabinet.
The cabinet features a pair of small adjacent drawers and three full-width drawers. The small drawers are of a ‘panel’-type, a typical feature of Takayama cabinets. The drawers run smoothly and offer ample storage space.
It is fitted with elegant hand-forged iron warabite-shaped bail handles, paired with circular lock plates adorned with raised knobs shaped like chrysanthemums 菊 (kiku). The lowest 2 lock-plates with an nice engraved pine tree 松 (matsu) motif. The sides are equipped with matching totte (grip handles). These types of cabinets originate from the mountain town of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

It is in a very good restored condition with minimal traces consistent with age. Some old signs of use on top. No keys are included. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
