Created as part of the F.F.F. (Family Follows Fiction) metaproject, an operation in the early 1990s that aimed to explore the affective structure of shapes and objects, starting from the idea of reproducing the object creation process followed by children and primitive cultures. In Stefano Giovannoni's design, the toilet brush is transformed from an "off limits" object into a svelte pot holding a long and strangely inviting shrub. The regular ''Merdolino'' is an object that scandalized the orthodox world of design, and has been hugely successful over the years. Therefore Alessi made a Limited edition ''Merdolino'' in Gold casting to celebrate the 100 years of Alessi back in 2021. 999 Copies worldwide were produced on this occasion.

This ‘’Merdolino’’ is part of the Alessi 100 Values Collection, this was a special initiative celebrates the values that define the identity and the practice of the hundred year “Dream Factory”. A collection of astonishing objects, coming from the Alessi Museum’s archives: objects never produced until now, unpublished versions, icons caught in their becoming.

This is an object that straddles the line between art and design and is dedicated to collectors with a passion for unique objects and for the eternal enthusiasts of Stefano Giovannoni’s work.

Born in La Spezia in 1954, Stefano as an architect and designer was taught by Buti at Florence University. In the early 80’s he founded the King-Kong Production Group along with Guido Venturini. A technical designer par excellence he has industrial design in his DNA and the capacity to understand public sentiment like no other designer. His projects began with the Girotondo (1989 designed with Guido Venturini) and the first transparent objects in plastic from the Family Follows Fiction series (1993). There is a huge number of his items in the Officina Alessi, Alessi and A di Alessi catalogues of Giovannoni.
