Extremely rare and historical WWII temporary cemetery grave tag to an american airman who gave the ultimate sacrifice on december 26, 1944 at the time of the Battle of the Bulge while serving with the 455th Bomber Squadron of the 323rd Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force.
(8th Air Force patch on the first/7th photo as well as other photos are not included in the sale )
Once the soldiers were given a permanent resting place, these temporary GRS ( graves registration service ) tags were discarded.
This soldiers is nowadays buried at the Mt. Cavalry Cemetery in White Plains, NY
On December 26, 1944 he was on the crew of the B-26 Marauder #B-26C #41-34955 "Mission Belle" when they were shot down during a mission to Houffalize, Belgium.
Casualties related to the #B-26C incident on December 26, 1944 are :
John W Fox :: Pilot
Joseph R G..... : Bombardier
Ralph L Hackworth :: Gunner
Russel F Leibensperger :: Tail Gunner
James L Pearson :: Navigator
Arthur K Vance :: Radio Operator
The plane crashed near Ronchampay, Belgium
