The series of the 'Rastermöbel' is an ongoing project started around 2006. The original idea was to design a piece of furniture especially for the rather new production method of CNC milling. Exploring the possibilities of this technique, the aim was to create a design, that cannot be produced in any traditional way.

The parts of the 'Rastermöbel' have complex curved shapes, that can only be cut in the necessary precision with a CNC machine.

In addition to the computer-aided machining of the parts, the furniture needs a lot of skilled manual work for assembly and finish. Therefore it is a combination of new technology and traditional craftsmanship.

In 2008 the first two pieces were completed. The stool and the chair have a concave seat, the chair has a concave-convex backrest. They were made of birch plywood. Plywood is an ideal material for these designs, as the cross-laminated timber has enough stability in both directions.

From 2010 the chair and stool of this series were exhibited at design fairs and in the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.

The birch plywood is treated with pigmented oil. The white pigments in the oil cause an appearence similar to untreated wood.

The stool in the auction is one of a small batch production.
