At the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2022, Cave du Rhodan Mounir Weine received the prestigious award of "Swiss Winery of the Year 2022". A wonderful reward for us and our team. The main prize for the Best Swiss Red Wine 2022 (Prix Vinissino) went to the Syrah Cave du Rhodan 2021. Part of this wine was aged in barrique barrels before bottling in December 2021 to create the MerSy 2021 Barrique. This spring, we selected one barrique for the special edition "Réserve Grand Prix du Vin Suisse" and bottled it into 147 magnums.

Founded in 1962, the family-owned Cave du Rhodan winery has been one of the top addresses in Valais for many years. Ambitious pioneering spirit is a tradition here, as evidenced by their significant involvement in the Grand Cru concept and the successful implementation of biodynamic viticulture in recent years. The first milestone was winning the gold medal with the Pinot Noir "Perle du Rhodan" at the first World Wine Competition held in Budapest in 1972. This was not only a success for Cave du Rhodan but also for Swiss winemaking as a whole. Since 2007, the winery has been run by Olivier and Sandra Mounir, the third generation of the family. The trained business economists continue the family tradition with a focus on uncompromising quality and sustainability. Particularly important to both of them is working sustainably in harmony with nature.

At the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2022, the winery was named "Swiss Winery of the Year".
Several plots have been farmed using biodynamic methods for many years. Throughout their entire vineyard, Cave du Rhodan has eliminated chemical fertilizers, instead employing a greening strategy to promote biodiversity. Since 2013, the two winemakers have even been breeding their own Ouessant sheep, which handle the greening work and contribute to natural fertilization. On approximately 10 hectares, alongside traditional Valais varieties such as Petit Arvine, Heida, Humagne Rouge, Cornalin, Gamaret, and Syrah, they also grow Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Riesling. Whether traditional varieties or innovative experiments, you can taste their uncompromising commitment to quality in every sip. We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer you the fresh and lively wines of Cave du Rhodan.

Elegant bouquet with notes of ripe wild berries, cherry, hints of underbrush, as well as some smoke and licorice. On the palate, it is smooth, soft, with ripe acidity, a clear cherry fruit, fine tannins, and a spicy long finish with berry fruit and pepper.
