West central Asia Bronze Seal - with a signed note from Professor W. G. Lambert Circa 2100-1800 BC This has a round flat face and flat back on which is mounted a stalk handle ending in a pierced loop. The design, achieved in raised lines, consists of one crescent supported on a straight stroke, two further crescents supports another straight but erratically placed line. It is in good condition save for damage to the outer rim at one point. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert. Wilfred G. Lambert (1926–2011) was a prominent historian and archaeologist, specializing in Assyriology and Near Eastern Archaeology. Born in Birmingham, Lambert earned degrees in Classics and Oriental Languages from the University of Cambridge. Over three decades, he contributed significantly to deciphering cuneiform tablets, collaborating closely with the British Museum. Post-retirement, Lambert remained active in scholarly pursuits, notably identifying historical texts and contributing to projects like the Catalogue of the Western Asiatic Seals.
