Luristan Bronze Arrowhead (Ingen mindstepris)

A fine Luristan bronze arrowhead featuring an elongated triangular blade, a raised mid-rib, and a long tang descending from the stem. The surface is covered with an attractive patination and earthly encrustations. The piece is supplied with a custom-made display stand. Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, renowned in antiquity for its sophisticated metal working techniques. In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the Luristan bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Luristan bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts. Measurements: Circa W 2cm x H 14.1cm, with stand L 7.6cm x W 4.3cm x H 14.5cm. Provenance: Ex London Collection, formed between 1990-present.
