Duitsland - XX Wehrgeology (Army Geology) Document Grouping of Russia (Wolga area) - Invasion - Barbarossa - 1942 - 1943

Offered for auction is a nice and interesting grouping of a Waffen XX Geology unit, related to research around the Wolga, Russia. They meant to find good sources of ground water for the upcoming troop occupation. The battalion-strength Waffen-XX Geological Corps (German: XX-Wehrgeologenkorps), from which such detachments were drawn, was formed in April 1941 and consisted mainly of engineers with a few geologists. They examined caves and natural obstacles, and determined whether off-road terrain was suitable for tanks.[9] They were also responsible for locating sources of fresh water. The Geology branch of the Waffen xx was thus extremely small, and was meant for future exploration of the conquered land, for the army and development of the country. It includes a map, several reports and a number of multiple of the same pages that were meant to be distributed among the unit at that time; dating from 1942-1943. Great grouping and investment!
