A jinkasa is a type of hat used by foot soldiers and foot soldiers in battlefields since the Muromachi period.
Made of thin iron or leather, it was painted with lacquer and used as a substitute for a helmet. Those used by generals and warriors were wooden and lacquered. In later times, it was called a sorigasa, which was used by samurai when going out and other occasions. It was made of kneaded leather and the back was painted black, vermilion, silver, or gold with lacquer. Some had a family crest on the front, and were decorated with lacquerware and abalone.
This is a jinkasa made in the Edo period.
Ajiroi is made by shaving cypress, bamboo, reed, etc. into thin, fine strips and weaving them through the fabric in an alternating pattern. It is a flat jinkasa with a family crest.
It is an old item, so there is some damage to the edges and deterioration due to age. Please check the image.
