This is a blended malt named in honor of Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky. He is the first Japanese who mastered whisky-making in Scotland and brought this expertise back to Japan. Pursuing his own ideal whisky, Masataka established Nikka in 1934. This award-winning bottling has complex malty flavor with Sherry cask influence generated by Nikka's artistic blending inherited by the founder.
From Glasgow
Masataka Taketsuru's passion took him to Scotland to learn the art of distilling.
Retuming to Japan, the father of Japanese whisky founded Japar's first malt distillery and carefully created a whisky with the very finest fragrance, body and taste.
Today Nikka remains faithful to Taketsuru's patient dedication to blending and passion for quality, distilling at a site chosen for its natural attributes. The secret of this superb whiskey is craftsmanship complemented by nature's blessings.

(06.20.1894 - 08.29.1979)
Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, was born in 1894 into a family of sake producers (since 1733).
After studying chemistry, he worked for a company in Osaka called Settsu Shuzo, which had plans to begin producing Japanese whisky. In 1918, the young laketsuru was sent to Scotland to learn production techniques and to gain experience. While studying at the University of Glasgow, he also became familiar with the arts of blending and of distilling. His dream was to create a malt distillery in Japan.
He returned home in November 1920, and he began working for the Kotobukiya group, for whom he built a distillery near Kyoto. This is how Taketsuru became the father of the first Japanese whisky in 1924.
In 1934 he decided to go his own way. He created the company Dai Nippon Kaju and began building the Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido. The growing success enabled the company to open a new distillery in 1969, Miyagikyo, near the city of Sendai on the island of Honshu.
Masataka Taketsuru passed away ten years later, at the age of 85.
