Ancient Egyptian Faience Shu Amulet - Great! Circa 4th-1st century BC, Ptolemaic Period This exquisite faience amulet portrays Shu, an essential deity in ancient Egyptian mythology, revered as the personification of air and light. Here, Shu is depicted as a man wearing a short kilt, kneeling with his arms raised, and the sun disk positioned directly above his head. Shu played a vital role in Egyptian cosmology, serving as the god of the atmosphere and the space between the earth and sky. He was believed to hold up the sky (Nut) from his outstretched arms, creating the separation between heaven and earth.
