Orth Plast - Ole Gjerlov-Knudsen, Torben Lind - Armstol - Skopa - ABS

The Skopa lounge chair was designed in 1969 by Danish designers Ole Gjerløv-Knudsen and Torben Lind for Orth Plast, a Danish manufacturer. It was produced for and sold by IKEA in the 1970s. The chair features a molded plastic bucket-shaped seat and backrest, giving it its Danish nickname "spandestolen" meaning "the bucket chair". It had a simple yet stylish and modern design typical of Danish mid-century furniture. The plastic shell was available in trendy colors like white, brown, and orange, with cushions in fabrics like black corduroy or striped turquoise/orange cotton. The Skopa chair was lightweight, stackable, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It reflected the optimism and youthful spirit of the era, with plastic being celebrated as "the material of the future" according to IKEA's 1974 catalog. However, production ceased in 1981 due to rising plastic costs from the oil crisis. Appears for the first time in the 1974 IKEA catalog. - Dimensions: Width 69, Depth 73, Height 62, Seat Height 35 cm. - Condition: Excellent overall, minor surface scuffs and scratches; comes with the original cushion. - Made in Denmark.
