These 2 revelatory catalogues delves into the many affinities shared between these three widely renowned and discussed Artists. Their intensely studied work has, until now, never been considered in relation to one another.
They brings to light how these figures curiously relate on an existential level, in how they deal with questions concerning sexuality, and in their way of utilizing self-portraiture as a means to explore issues of personal identity .
Condition: Both items very good.
¶ Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a Norwegian painter. His best known work, The Scream (1893), has become one of Western art's most iconic images.
¶ Robert Michael Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) was an American Photographer, best known for his black-and-white photographs. His work featured an array of subjects, including Celebrity Portraits, Male and Female Nudes, Self-portraits, and Still-life images as Flowers. His most controversial works documented and examined the Gay Male BDSM subculture of New York City.
¶ Félicien Rops (1833-1898) was a Belgian Painter, Draughtsman, Illustrator, Caricaturist and Engraver. He uses different techniques in his own way (etching and aquatint). Although not well known to the general public, Rops was greatly respected by his Peers. Best known today for his Prints and Drawings illustrating Erotic and Occult Literature.
