This is an excellent linen bed linen with exceptional width of 2m20 for the early 20th Century. It has been left in the armoire for decennia and either been forgotten to deck the beds or not sufficiently liked by the grand parents of the lady owner I obtained it from. What is unusual that it has no initials in the centre. There could well be reasons for this. No doubt this would have been a marriage bed linen and the bride might not have had sufficient time to add her initial or she had become widowed or the engagement had been called off or worst her future husband had died in the battle. The border has been beautifully embroidered in high relief in a kind of shell design and framed with pompons embroidery. The edgings have been richly scalloped. If I may give you some useful advice as there are no initials in the centre why do not you embroider your own family initials on the bed linen. You can still buy the letters already embroidered from an haberdashery shop in France ,attach them to the bed linen and embroider over them so it appears that you have embroidered them yourself.
