Fans of thought-provoking art should get ready to bid as an exclusive auction of artwork by contemporary British artist Hayden Kays is currently live on the UK’s fastest growing online auction house, Catawiki.
Curated by Kays himself, the auction features 20 prints and originals by the London-based artist. Characterised by bold imagery, Kays work often draws from popular culture and art history, featuring acerbic word-play, traditional craftsmanship and deadpan humour. The auction includes an original piece entitled ‘Will Things Ever Be The Same Again?’, a colorful self-portrait that comes with a hand written and illustrated Certificate of Authenticity. Prints include an artist proof of ‘Jeans Reunited,’ which features an image of the Queen in her royal regalia with the question, “Does the Queen own jeans?” stamped across it.
Kays’ challenging artwork has gained him many celebrity fans including Jude Law, Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin and One Direction’s Harry Styles, who has previously spent over £20,000 on Kays’ works and reportedly bought a piece as a Valentine’s Day present for Caroline Flack when they dated back in 2012.
Kays’ work has also caught the eye of his contemporaries, including legendary street artist Banksy and contemporary art bad boy Jake Chapman who comments, “Acerbic, witty, shallow and subversive, attention seeking, quite brilliant, money grabbing shit...I have a growing collection of Hayden Kays work.”
