Internationally acclaimed fashion designer and artist, Johny Dar joins forces with 100 celebrities for ‘Jeans for Refugees’ project raising money for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). From Hollywood heavy hitters Ryan Gosling and Sharon Stone to Britain’s very own Sir Elton John and Victoria Beckham, the 100 celebrities have each donated a pair of their jeans which are being painted and given various artistic treatments by Dar. With 31 pairs already available, another two pairs and the first lot of men’s jeans are being released from today [Friday 19th August], coinciding with World Humanitarian Day.
The jeans are exclusively available to bid and buy on the world’s fastest growing online auction house, Catawiki (http://www.catawiki.com/jeansforrefugees).
The next ‘Jeans for Refugees’ lot of jeans are donated by former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles and Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe. This current crop of celebrities now join the likes of Kate Moss, Emma Watson, Lily Allen, Mel C, Fearne Cotton, Anna Wintour, Claudia Schiffer and many more in having their denim threads up for grabs in aid of the IRC. More A-lister pairs of jeans will be released over the summer along with a number of other events and activities where the public can get involved. Currently, Sharon Stone’s jeans are the most popular with a current bid of £4,179.
Johny’s comments on Daniel Radcliffe’s Jeans: “Daniel continues to make shockwaves through his magic wand, and with his subtle sexiness. There’s a dynamic movement in the design of his jeans, and different painting techniques incorporated - hand-drawn geometry, and arrow patterns (which reminded me of Harry Potter’s signature scar) in blue and indigo that play with the cut and movement of the denim. And details in 3D metallic steel along the legs, like a code. Painting Daniel’s jeans was a steady ride, with a sense of complete confidence, no matter where the ride takes you.”
Johny’s comments on Harry Styles’s jeans: “Harry was born to be a star. He has a sensitive side, which came through while I was painting his jeans. They are sleek and cool - with metallic grey 3D paint on skinny black denims with ripped knees, signed with "All the love, Harry." The linework is intricate - my signature style - telling Harry's story “unplugged”. Sexy jeans, full of energy - ready to rock your world!”
Johny Dar is extremely passionate about the refugee crisis. The concept behind Jeans for Refugees is to spread a message through art, to create positive change and empower people to collaborate for a common goal. The intention is to raise millions for the International Rescue Committee.
