Challenging consumerism: From superheroes to the developing world, Matt Lambert artistically explores the ever-evolving world we live in

Whereas most lots that go up for auction on Catawiki are only available to view online, Matt Lambert and Catawiki are hosting a live exhibition for the public to view the artwork this weekend (further details below). Would you like to attend? The exhibition will showcase all new artwork in the auction whilst the bidding action will take place simultaneously online through the Catawiki website, where Matt himself will supervise the auction as guest auctioneer: www.catawiki.com.

As a boy growing up in the 1980s, Matt is a product of the stereotypical ideals of masculinity and has always felt the push and pull between the desire to be strong and his inner fears, understanding the stigma attached to vulnerability and the pressure to put up a facade. Matt believes as technology evolves and we, as humans do not, the gap between the mask and the actual only grows larger, creating an increasing sense of inadequacy and the feeling that we are imposters.

Matt infuses these views and feelings into his artwork taking inspiration from celebrity magazines, childhood memories, evolution, cultural symbols, belief systems, big cities, logos, superheroes, Star Wars and the developing world. Matt’s wife is also a psychotherapist which informs his approach to exploring human emotions in his work.

We would like to connect you with Matt and Catawiki to discuss the collection up for auction and the influences around various paintings. Please find a few key images highlighted below.
