Pushing the boundaries of acceptability.

Fans of thought-provoking art should get ready to bid as an auction of exclusive artwork by contemporary British artist, Imbue is currently live on Europe’s fastest growing online auction house, Catawiki. Curated by Imbue himself, the auction features 22 exclusive pieces and original artworks, some of which have not yet been seen before. Stimulating and suggestive in style, Imbue’s bold approach to art has seen him dubbed the ‘Banksy of Brighton’ and some of his boundary-pushing stunts, such as the ‘Drug Vending Machine’, have made him one of the most talked about names on the contemporary art scene. Some of the pieces in the auction satirise mass culture and explore challenging themes such as religion, drugs and consumerism. The auction also includes one of Imbue’s most iconic pieces, the infamous ‘Drug Lord Cross’. The controversial sculpture features a crucifix filled with drugs, raising questions over faith and morality in today’s society. Also up for auction is arguably one of Imbue’s most daring works, the aptly titled ‘Holy Fuck,’ which sees a crucifix shaped sculpture, this time filled with condoms. Also featuring in the auction, and exclusive to Catawiki, are two signed and marked prints of Imbue’s ‘Virgin’, featuring an image of the Virgin Mary donning suspenders under her iconic blue and white robe. Other exclusive prints include ‘Barbie Rip Off’ - a provocative image of the iconic Barbie doll that questions the notions of traditional femininity and consumerism. Anthony Chrisp, Catawiki’s specialist contemporary art auctioneer comments, “Imbue is one of the most exciting artists on the contemporary art scene, pushing the boundaries and satirising mass culture in a unique way. This auction has some very exciting pieces, many exclusive to Catawiki, and we’ve already seen it get a lot of attention from bidders and expect this interest to continue.” The auction will run until the 3rd of April 2016 at: http://auction.catawiki.co.uk/imbue-art-auction
