Wine of the Year
“Several well-known wine critics marked Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2022 as a gem composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon,” says Patricia Verschelling, Catawiki's Senior Expert in Wine. “This wine has been tasted ‘en-primeur’, which is direct from the barrel, indicating the wine's potential before bottling. These samples can differ from the finished wine and it remains to be seen how the final product will develop over time.”

Verschelling suggests Chateau Chasse Spleen is a wine to look out for: “This is a wine to drink for optimal enjoyment. The vineyards of Chasse Spleen are in the commune of Moulis at the centre of the Médoc area. The vineyards are known for their well-draining gravelly soil on a clay-limestone base, which contributes to the wine's quality. The Merlaut family, owners of the chateau since 1976, began standardising excellent vineyard practices, modernising the wine making facilities and carefully selecting oak barrels to mature the wine prior to bottling, ensuring the best quality. Chateau Chasse Spleen is, together with Chateau Poujeaux, by far the best chateau of this area in Bordeaux. The last 9 vintages have all been excellent and thus a great wine to buy and drink.”
