ITALIAN CARS THAT HAVE MADE AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY GO UP FOR AUCTION

Ferrari and Alfa Romeo are iconic Italian carmakers, internationally recognised for their quality and sporty, yet still elegant style. In order to rediscover the models that have written the history of this sector in Italy, Catawiki, the leading online auction marketplace for special objects, selected by experts, has made two unobtainable vehicles available to classic car lovers: the Ferrari 330 GT Series II and the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA will be up for auction.

The Maranello horse

The Ferrari 330 GT Series II, was designed by Pininfarina, a symbol of Italian design. Elegant and powerful, this 330 GT 2+2 is the most sought-after variant of the Series II and one of Ferrari's finest V12 grand tourers. The Ferrari 330 GT Series II was one of the favourite models of Enzo Ferrari himself. Not only that, it was the object of desire of Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and John Lennon. It was also used by Formula 1 driver Chris Amon of Scuderia Ferrari from 1967 to 1969.

The car at auction was bought in 1966 by a well-known Lebanese businessman. In 1978 the car was then bought by a British war journalist who, following his move to Italy in 2018, sold it to the current owner, a businessman and collector from Perugia.

The estimated sale price is 330,000 euros.

The snake of Milan

The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA dates back to the 1960s. Derived from the more classic Giulia GT, the GTA was built to take part in the most important "Turismo" races of the time, also achieving several goals. This model is now unobtainable as there are only 483 examples, and even fewer in RHD version with right-hand drive.

The estimated selling price is 300,000 euros.

Catawiki celebrates Italian excellence

Catawiki's automotive expert Franco Vigorito said: "Despite the passage of time, the condition of both cars is impeccable, giving enthusiasts the opportunity to take home two rare gems that represent the excellence of Italian automotive manufacturing.

Vigorito noted in addition that the market for classic and vintage vehicles has begun to move online at an accelerated pace and, as the leading online marketplace for special objects selected by experts, Catawiki is the ideal platform for car enthusiasts to buy and sell safely: "Hundreds of vehicles are auctioned every week on Catawiki and among the Italian brands, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo top the list of the most sought-after ones.
